KNOXVILLE — Cade Mays met with media for the first time since arriving at the University of Tennessee.
The junior offensive lineman transferred from Georgia to Tennessee in January. He was cleared by the NCAA and SEC to play immediately without having to sit out one season for not being a graduate transfer.
On Tuesday, Mays discussed returning to Knoxville where he played at Catholic High School. His father, Kevin Mays, played for the Vols from 1991-94.
“I had a good experience at Georgia,” Mays said. “Obviously, things didn’t work out, so I transferred here and I’m happy with where I’m at now. I’m happy to be a part of the family, taking in every day and embracing it.”

Mays’ brother, Cooper Mays, is also an offensive lineman on Tennessee’s team.
The junior Georgia transfer described what it is like playing alongside his brother at Tennessee, saying “it’s been an unreal experience.”
“We got to play for a state championship in high school and won that,” Mays said of playing with his brother who is a freshman. “We got to do a lot of things growing up together. One of our dreams was to play college football together. Now that that’s a reality, it’s unreal.
“On my first play, I looked over and he was right next to me, so it was unbelievable to see that become a reality. Afterwards, we talked about it. We are just both ecstatic that we both get to be out on the same field at an SEC level and compete. It’s just awesome.”
