Here’s an interesting matchup: Teofimo Lopez Jr. vs. Ryan Garcia. Oscar De La Hoya, for one, thinks it would be special.
The promoter of Garcia told TMZ Sports that a fight between the two young stars at 135 pounds would be a “classic”.
“I think [Lopez] is the future in the lightweight division and there’s a lot of great fights out there for him, including our very own Ryan Garcia, which would be a massive, massive fight,” he said.
He went on: “That’ll be like Fernando Vargas vs. De La Hoya all over again, bro. … I mean that’s a classic!”
De La Hoya said he was impressed with Lopez’s performance in his unanimous-decision victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in their title-unification showdown Saturday in Las Vegas.
Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) is weighing his many options after his break-through victory. Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) has a date with former Olympic champion Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) on Dec. 5.
