You’re waking up on Tuesday reading all that you can about the players that you should be picking up off the waiver wire as you prepare for Week 7 of fantasy football in 2020.
But it’s likely there aren’t as many things written about who you should be dropping to grab those players. That’s what this weekly column — keep ’em or dump ’em! — will hopefully answer for you: Some help in the debate over who you should keep or drop in order to improve your team.
Will you spend this week on Boston Scott or some of the other potential gems on the waiver wire? Then you’ll need to know who to drop! Let’s dive in.
1. WR Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs
The thinking was that Sammy Watkins’ absence would be a boost for the second-year speedster. But he saw just one target and is generally boom or bust from game to game. I think it’s safe to drop him.
VERDICT: Drop him
2. WR Alshon Jeffery, Philadelphia Eagles
Travis Fulgham has emerged as the top receiver in Philly. But with Zach Ertz out and Jeffery maybe back either this week or next, I’d say if you have the room, keep him and see what happens. There could be passing volume to be had.
VERDICT: Keep him
3. WR Scotty Miller, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I doubt you held on after Chris Godwin and Mike Evans got healthy, but if you did …
VERDICT: Drop him
4. Any tight ends
You probably already know the TE position is a nightmare in 2020. Aside from Travis Kelce, George Kittle, Mark Andrews, Darren Waller and Jonnu Smith (who may miss time with an injury), there isn’t much consistency. So whoever you’ve got on your bench — Hayden Hurst, Dalton Schultz, Austin Hooper, whoever! — hang on to them. And if you’re desperate on the waiver wire, go hunting for good matchups or borderline starters. In other words, having two tight ends on your roster is a good idea.
VERDICT: Keep them
5. WR Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans
He’s coming off the COVID-19 list, and with A.J. Brown back and the No. 1 receiver, he’s going to lose a lot of value. But the Titans’ passing attack has some value and maybe Jonnu Smith’s injury gives him some increased opportunities.
VERDICT: Keep him
6. Most backup QBs
If you had a starting quarterback on a bye who’s back, it’s safe to drop your backup … for the most part. If your backup is, say, Jared Goff, maybe you want to keep him. But if your starter is Ryan Tannehill and you’ve got Justin Herbert on your bench, it’s totally fine to let Herbert go. If you lose Tannehill to injury down the road, you can always stream QBs week to week.
VERDICT: Drop them
7. RB Matt Breida, Miami Dolphins
Yes, it’s Myles Gaskin’s backfield now. But if Gaskin gets injured, he’s next man up.
VERDICT: Keep him
