With game week finally here, Monday was a crazy day, full of quotes from Jim Harbaugh, P.J. Fleck and various others as Michigan and Minnesota prepare to face off on Saturday.
But, in case you missed it, Michigan will be down a player who was once promising linebacker prospect, and the Wolverines first commitment in the 2019 recruiting cycle.
As first reported by Von Lozon of Maize n Brew, former IMG Academy and St. Thomas More three-star linebacker Charles Thomas is no longer listed on the roster and has been confirmed to have entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Thomas still has four years of eligibility at his disposal.
While the standard protocol is that a player has to sit out a year, with the current COVID changes to the rules, this year is a free year, eligibility-wise. Also, the one-time transfer rule proposed by Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is set to be on the NCAA’s docket this January and is expected to be approved.
Thomas had 17 total snaps in his true freshman year with the Wolverines — all on special teams.
Of Thomas, Harbaugh once said, after the 2019 class had signed, “Speaking of speed, Charles Thomas, the linebacker – I think he’s gonna remind people of Devin Bush with his speed.”
Now he’ll look to fulfill that promise elsewhere.
