Ed Orgeron helped lead the LSU Tigers to the 2019 national championship and has brought a winning culture to the program, notably being the coach at the helm when Joe Burrow changed the stereotype of the quarterback position in Baton Rouge.
According to USA TODAY, Orgeron is the second-highest paid head coach in college football for 2020.
Orgeron is set to earn $8,918,500 for 2020, second only to Alabama’s Nick Saban, who will earn $9,300,000 in 2020.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was originally No. 2 behind Saban before he agreed to a reduction in compensation due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Swinney will now earn $8,319,775 in 2020.
Jim Harbaugh of Michigan comes in at No. 4, while Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher rounds out the top five.
Six coaches from the SEC make the top 10, with Saban, Orgeron, Fisher, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, and Dan Mullen of Florida.
Overall, 59 coaches agreed to some type of reduction, with Swinney topping the list at $1.25 million.
Orgeron agreed to a new six-year extension in January after the Tigers won the national championship to keep him in Baton Rouge until at least 2026.
