The Green Bay Packers will be wearing the team’s home green uniform tops on Sunday in Tampa Bay.
According to the Buccaneers’ uniform schedule, the home team will be wearing white tops and white pants against the Packers on Sunday, putting the visitors into their traditional home look – green tops, yellow pants – on the road.
Many teams based in Florida or other hotter climates will wear white at home, believing the reflective nature of the color to be better against the heat of the sun. Darker colors, like green, absorb more sunlight and retain more heat.
The Buccaneers have long worn white uniforms at home, especially early in the season. The practice dates back to the franchise’s time in the old NFC Central division, when the Packers would travel to Tampa Bay to play the Buccaneers every season.
The switch doesn’t always happen. Although the Packers wore green home uniforms at Raymond James Stadium in 2008, they also wore their white road uniforms in Tampa Bay in 2014 and 2009.
The Packers last wore home uniforms on the road against the Dallas Cowboys last season.
