The Jacksonville Jaguars placed safety Andrew Wingard on injured reserve Monday due to an abdominal strain. The injury was one he was dealing with prior to Week 5’s game against the Houston Texans, however, he re-aggravated in the early stages of Sunday’s game.

With the Jags placing Wingard on IR, he’ll now have to sit out for three games, which means he can’t return until the Jags’ Week 9 game against the Texans because their bye week falls on Week 8.

Wingard, who is one of the Jags’ most reliable special teams aces, had to start in three games for the Jags with starting safety Jarrod Wilson going on IR after Week 1’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Wingard will head to IR with 25 tackles, two pass breakups, and a pick with 2020 being his second season.

With Wingard going on IR, Brandon Watson and Daniel Thomas are the Jags’ backup options. They also have veteran Doug Middleton on practice squad if needed for a promotion.
