5 Chargers at New Orleans Saints prop bets to make in Week 5

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert OVER 0.5 interceptions (-186)

A rookie quarterback on the road in a primetime game? It seems like a pretty safe bet the Saints will force at least one turnover against Herbert. He’s thrown one interception in each of the past three games and this might just be the toughest defense he has faced.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert OVER 34.5 passing attempts (-115)

More than likely, the Chargers are going to be down or in a shootout with the Saints. That means Los Angeles is going to lean on its rookie quarterback. Look for Herbert to approach 40 or more attempts in this contest, many of which could happen in the second half.

Saints WR Tre’Quan Smith’s longest reception OVER 20.5 yards (-115)

With Saints WR Michael Thomas out of this game due to a team violation, Smith will be QB Drew Brees‘ top weapon. Smith excels at making plays down the field and the Saints will need him to create plays down the field in this contest. He should see multiple targets beyond 20 yards in this game and expect him to come down with at least one of them.

Saints RB Latavius Murray to score first New Orleans TD (+600)

While Saints RB Alvin Kamara gets a lot of praise in New Orleans, Murray is still a big threat near the end zone. His combination of size and speed makes him a valuable red-zone weapon and we have already seen the Saints use him as their goal-line back. At +600, it’s not a bad bet on a player who is used to being in the end zone quite often.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert to score and Los Angeles to win (+1200)

If you are looking for a fun long-shot bet, consider taking Herbert to rush for a touchdown and for the Chargers to upset the Saints on Monday Night Football. Herbert is a highly athletic quarterback who can make plays with his legs, and the Chargers have won or led in the fourth quarter of every game this season. Considering the 12-1 odds, this isn’t a bad bet on Herbert and the Chargers.
