Sei Young Kim gets her major, captures KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

Kim didn’t take her foot off the gas one bit on Sunday, expanding her lead on the field to grab her 11th LPGA victory.

Coming into this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, one burning question was if Sei Young Kim could finally grab that elusive first major title.

By midway through the back nine on Sunday at Aronimink, the question was by how much the South Korean star would win by.

Kim didn’t take her foot off the gas one bit on Sunday in the Philadelphia suburbs, expanding her lead on the field to grab her 11th LPGA victory. She finished the day with a scintillating 63.

This wasn’t a case of others giving Kim the title. In fact, Inbee Park fired a 65 on Sunday, keeping her spot in second for the event at 9 under.

 

Nasa Hatoaka and Carlota Ciganda tied for third at 7 under as the duo shot rounds of 64 and 65, respectively.

But this was Kim’s week. She got better as the day progressed — after a birdie on No. 9 gave her an impressive 32 on the front, she really got rolling on the final few holes, posting birdies on Nos. 13, 14, 16 and 17.
