Jimmy Garoppolo to start vs. Dolphins

The 49ers will get their starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo back vs. the Miami Dolphins.

The 49ers are getting their starting quarterback back. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday announced to media in a video conference after practice that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start for San Francisco against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.

Garoppolo missed the last two games with a high ankle sprain that he sustained early in Week 2 vs. the Jets. He finished the first half of that game but never came back out of the locker room after halftime.

He didn’t practice at all leading up to Weeks 3 and 4, but returned Wednesday on a limited basis. He was limited Thursday as well.

The limited sessions lent some doubt that he would play vs. Miami, but he probably wouldn’t have been on the field at all if the team wasn’t planning on playing him.

Garoppolo in six quarters this season completed 67.3 percent of his throws for 390 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sitting at 8.0 yards per attempt and a 118.6 quarterback rating.

The 49ers and Dolphins kickoff at 1:05pm Pacific Time on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.
