The Tennessee Titans have created a messy situation for the NFL the last two weeks after the team experienced an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. More than 20 players and personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus, causing their Week 4 game to be postponed.
The NFL investigated the Titans to determine whether they followed the protocols properly, and it turns out there were some rules broken. Players held a workout while the team’s facility was closed and the Titans could face a serious punishment for it.
Sean McVay was asked Wednesday if teams should be disciplined for breaking the league’s COVID-19 rules, and he left no doubt with his answer.
“Oh, yeah,” he said. “There’s some very strict policies that the league is serious about implementing and I think we all realize how volatile this thing is. So, to answer your question, yes.”
McVay said he didn’t know what a fair punishment would be for a team that violates the protocols, but he realizes how serious the situation is. With the Titans’ cases still spreading this week, too, their upcoming game against the Bills is now in question.
He wouldn’t say that he’s frustrated by teams not taking the rules seriously, but he just wants to see everyone make an effort to keep the season ongoing.
“You know what, that’s not for me to comment on,” he said. “I think what’s important is I think everybody, all 32 teams would say that the goal is to be able to have a season, keep our players and all their families and everybody in each organization safe from this coronavirus and do everything that we can to be able to keep this season rolling and have a full season and ultimately be able to get to the playoffs and get through crowning Super Bowl champs. So, that’s where our focus and concentration is, is doing those things the right way.”
