The Washington Football Team made the surprise decision to bench QB Dwayne Haskins on Wednesday morning in favor of QB Kyle Allen, who will start this weekends game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The news is only surprising in the sense of its timing, as Haskins is coming off of his best performance of the year, and potentially of his career, with 314 yards and zero interceptions in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.
While many Washington fans might have seen this coming at some point this season, the NFL world at large reacted to the news on social media in the midst of a crazy morning in the NFL where breaking news was flying about. Here are some of the top tweets from the day.
The Dwayne Haskins Experience:
🔸 Get drafted 15th overall by a HC on the hot seat
🔸 Play for three HCs in 13 games
🔸 Get vote of confidence from Ron Rivera to start the season
🔸 Go from No. 1 to No. 3 QB after four games— Kimberley A. Martin (@ByKimberleyA) October 7, 2020
Not only is Dwayne Haskins not starting for the Washington Football Team on Sunday, he's not even No. 2. Alex Smith will back up Kyle Allen against the #Rams.

Dwayne Haskins made this throw on 4th and goal. Washington will be starting over with a new QB next season pic.twitter.com/HBl3zgWY8d

Dwayne Haskins started 13 games but really got minimal support from the beginning. Where a QB gets drafted matters a great deal.

It's definitely Dwayne Haskins' fault that Washington is a trash organization with a trash owner who can't put together a winning roster and never has.

If I were Ryan Pace I’d trade for Dwayne Haskins, Josh Rosen, and Sam Darnold and have the greatest combined QB upside of any team ever.

We probably know Dwayne Haskins is bad. We *definitely* know Kyle Allen is bad.

1. Dwayne Haskins was bad
2. Kyle Allen is not better
3. We have no clue what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe a wake up call is the right move https://t.co/UnjLTaxNiO— Mike Renner (@PFF_Mike) October 7, 2020
