The Miami Dolphins are utilizing their time this week to reassess their roster on all fronts. Much buzz was made yesterday when Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said yesterday at his press conference that he “presumed” QB Ryan Fitzpatrick would keep his starting role in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers, but Flores’ response is a greater indication of their approach with the entire team — not just at quarterback.
Flores explained further during his press availability.
“We’re a quarter of the way through the season now, so we’re going to obviously do an evaluation of our team from that standpoint. We try to play the guys we feel are going to help us turn this thing around and play better in situations that like red zone and two-minute and the fourth quarter; and that’ll be at all positions,” said Flores.
“We just talked about reevaluating everything – every position, every grouping and we always do that after every quarter, let’s say, and try to, moving forward, do the things that we’ve been doing well and try to continue to build on those and obviously improve anything where we haven’t had as much success.”
There’s no shortage of both for Miami, but the red zone is a sore subject after the Dolphins kicked two field goals on 4th and short situations from the 11-yard line versus Seattle — only to lose by 8 points by the end of the game. Had Miami’s red zone offense been able to punch those plays into the end zone, we’d have seen a very different game play out for Miami. But alas, they did not and the Dolphins now sit at 1-3 with an opportunity to reevaluate the entirety of their roster. What changes are ultimately made will be seen this week — but don’t expect status quo everywhere. Maybe even quarterback, who knows?
