The New England Patriots’ defense has been playing pretty darn good tonight against the Kansas Chiefs and midway through the second quarter they appeared to force their second turnover… until the refs jumped in and made a really bad call.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick then lost it on the refs as the Chiefs punted the ball away.
Fans wondered why Belichick didn’t challenge the play but the refs ruled that Patrick Mahomes was in the grasp, which is not reviewable. CBS’ Tracy Wolfson confirmed after halftime that Belichick told her he couldn’t challenge the play because it was a sack.
It was a confusing sequence that started with Patriots defensive end Chase Winovich wrapping up Mahomes. The QB tried to make a play and lost control of the ball, which was then picked up by the Patriots before it hit the ground.
Check this out:
Last play was a case of Mahomes trying to do too much. This should be a fumble. Patriots robbed!!!
They called that an incomplete pass?

It wasn’t ruled an incomplete pass, though. It was ruled a sack.
Belichick was rightfully livid:

Fox Sports’ rules guru Mike Pereira weighed in on the call:
By the way, the ruling of "in the grasp" is not reviewable.

Seems like that rule should be changed because that was a really bad call by the refs.
