Patriots at Chiefs game notes
- This game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed after Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday. QB Brian Hoyer is expected to start under center for the Pats.
- Hoyer went 0-1 for the Indianapolis Colts last season. He completed 53.8% of 65 passes for 372 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions over four games with one start.
- The Chiefs have now had a full week of rest following a 34-20 beat down of the Baltimore Ravens last Monday night. The Patriots beat the Las Vegas Raiders 36-20 Sunday of Week 3.
- Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 898 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception through three games. The Patriots are allowing 235.3 passing yards per game and rank second in the NFL with a plus-4 turnover differential (4 INTs, 3 fumbles).

Patriots at Chiefs: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction
Prediction
Chiefs 28, Patriots 13
Money line (?)
The Chiefs were already the favorites at home in this marquee AFC showdown before Newton was ruled out. The two best head coaches in the NFL will be the two giving a blueprint to the NFL on how to handle any future games that may be postponed on short notice due to COVID testing.
The Patriots have started strong while altering their offensive scheme to fit Newton. Hoyer knows the Tom Brady-led system from previous stints with Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, but he’s no match for Mahomes. The +490 price is intriguing for New England, but the Chiefs (-668) will win this at home.
We’ll PASS due to the lack of value on the money line and look to the spread.
Against the spread (?)
The CHIEFS -11 (-110) can be backed to win by 12 or more points with Newton unavailable Monday. KC is 2-1 against the spread on the year. It’s covering by 5.5 points per game while winning by an average of 10.3 PPG. New England is also 2-1 ATS and winning by 7.0 PPG.
Take the much healthier Chiefs in another statement game against a top AFC contender.
Over/Under (?)
Take the UNDER 50.5 (-110) with the Patriots unlikely to provide enough offense with Newton out.
The New England defense should be able to contain Mahomes and Co. for the majority of the game, but the offense will fall behind and the Chiefs will be able to run out the clock later in the game.
