The Philadelphia 76ers are still picking up the pieces following a disappointing 2019-20 season as they took a step back in plenty of areas. With those shortcomings comes major changes as they first started with the head coach firing Brett Brown and bringing in Doc Rivers to replace him.
The thing is, the Sixers were also expected to make major changes in the front office. General manager Elton Brand hinted at major front office changes following the team’s Round 1 sweep and most were expecting Alex Rucker and Ned Cohen to be relieved of their positions.
Now, it appears the team is having a change of heart as The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey reports that the team will keep both Rucker and Cohen, but just keep them out of any basketball decisions.
Pompey reports:
But now that we’re into October, the new expectation is that Rucker and Cohen are in line to remain, but be out of the loop in regards to decision making. They could just be information gatherers.
The team has said it is looking to add an executive who would rank below Brand. The word came after multiple league sources said the team had been inquiring about the possibility of hiring a president of basketball operations.
While signaling a change in the front office, Brand did mention that the collaborative days did not work and the team agreed to move in with him just making the decisions. One has to assume that this is their way of doing that to allow Brand the freedom to make the decisions for the team moving forward. [lawrence-related id=38114,38101,38104]
