With all the oddities of the last week for the Pittsburgh Steelers we decided to talk a little good news. Our friends over at Touchdown Wire have updated their NFL power rankings for Week 3 and the Steelers got a nice bump after their 28-21 win over the Houston Texans.
TD Wire has the Steelers up from No. 8 last week to No. 4 this week, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills.
Having all three Watt brothers on the same field at the same time was a cute story, but then there was football to be played. And the Steelers proved to be the better team against the Texans in a 28-21 win, coming as it did a week after a 26-21 win over the Broncos in which Pittsburgh’s aggressive defense make Jeff Driskell look all too competent. The Steelers did what they always do, and what every defense does against Deshaun Watson — they sacked Houston’s great quarterback five times, and hit him 12 more. Still, the Texans had 14-3 and 21-17 leads before Pittsburgh was able to seal the deal. Coverage is something to be concerned about at this point in time.
The Steelers now have to wait a week to take on the Philadelphia Eagles and see if they can keep up this win streak. Pittsburgh is playing far from perfect football but the combination of intense pass rush and a balanced offense has been enough to keep up this season’s momentum. How much will the Tennessee Titans COVID debacle impact the momentum Pittsburgh has built up? We will know soon enough.
