The Philadelphia 76ers made a hire on Thursday night as they brought in Doc Rivers to replace Brett Brown after seven seasons at the helm. He brings a lot of credibility to a position that was missing it as Philadelphia heads into a new era in their franchise’s history.

Rivers spent the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and he had a lot of battles with some Western Conference powers such as the Golden State Warriors. The Clippers and the Warriors had some pretty entertaining matchups in the West playoffs and Golden State coach Steve Kerr has a lot of praise for Rivers and his hire for Philadelphia.

During the Warriors mini camp, Kerr spoke with the Bay Area Media via the Warriors SoundCloud and had this to say about Rivers’ hire for the Sixers:

I’m excited for Doc and for the Sixers. He’s a great coach, as I mentioned the other day, he’s great for the league. So I’m happy that he’s quickly back in the NBA. He’s important for the league and for the rest of the coaches.

Rivers is a guy who has the challenge of taking this talented, but young and unproven team to the top of the NBA. The Sixers have a lot of expectations considering the talent held by both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and the pieces surrounding them so the hope is to win an NBA title that this franchise desperately craves.
