Report: Sixers have decided to hire Doc Rivers as their next head coach

The Philadelphia 76ers have decided to hire Doc Rivers as their next head coach.

The Philadelphia 76ers have made a decision on a new head coach for the first time in seven years. After firing Brett Brown on August 24 following a Round 1 sweep in the playoffs, the Sixers conducted a lengthy coaching search, but they have now made a decision.

Initially, the thought was that the Sixers would choose between Tyronn Lue and Mike D’Antoni, but once Doc Rivers was available after parting ways with the Los Angeles Clippers, it was clear that Philadelphia wanted him.

The franchise brought him to the area on Wednesday to interview him in person and he then watched Game 1 of the 2020 NBA Finals with the team. Whatever was said between Rivers and the team’s brass was clearly enough to give him the coaching job.

Rivers has had a lot of success as a head coach in the NBA as he brings a career .581 winning percentage and he has a title on his resume as well. He should be a good option for this team and get the most out of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. [lawrence-related id=38042,38039,38035]
