One of the bright spots in the Dallas Cowboys’ rough 1-2 start to the 2020 season has been rookie wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb. He’s averaging 76.7 yards game and already had a 100-yard performance. However, he wasn’t on the field at the end of the Cowboys 38-31 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week.
Many highlighted a scary fall during a tackle on a punt return as the reason for a reduced workload, but McCarthy didn’t reference the play at all. In his Wednesday press conference, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy explained it was due to his workload and not injury.
“He’s clearly 1-2 at the top the number of plays and how much work he’s done,” McCarthy said, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. “I think he’s a little affected in the game front workload too … This is the first time we went with 10 personnel, four wide receivers into the game. Those guys are playing a lot of reps.”
Lamb has certainly made all those reps count in his first three NFL games. According to Pro Football Reference, he currently leads all rookie receivers in receptions (16) and is second in yards (230) and targets (24). If he stays at this pace, he’ll finish with 1,227 yards as a rookie.
Lamb was voted the best wide receiver during training camp by the staff writers of DallasCowboys.com and he hasn’t disappointed so far.
