LeBron James says ‘lack of respect’ towards Spoelstra is from media, not NBA

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James says that questions about a lack of respect for his former coach Erik Spoelstra.

If there were any people who doubted the abilities of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra to get his team prepared to play at the highest levels of the NBA, they should be believers now that Spoelstra led the Heat back to the NBA Finals for the first time since the days of LeBron James and The Heatles. While it’s a matter of public record that LeBron wasn’t sold on Spoelstra early on his relationship with him, his gripes about him are nearly a decade old. He came to realize quickly that Spoelstra was ready for the job after a learning experience in the 2011 Finals and has sung his praises since.

Because of the fact James became convinced so early, he believes any narratives about Spoelstra being “unappreciated” or “underrated” is a media fabrication, rather than a reflection of how NBA players and coaches actually feel.

James said he was surprised by the narratives coming out about a lack of respect for Spoelstra when he is one of the pillars of the Miami Heat family, which has once again put together an NBA Finalist for the sixth time in 14 seasons.
