The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to sign Hakeem Butler off of the Carolina Panthers practice squad on Tuesday afternoon after the team placed star tight end Dallas Goedert on Injured Reserve.
Goedert suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bengals.
At 6-5, 224 pounds, the second-year player out of Iowa State was a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 at wide receiver and spent his entire rookie season on Injured Reserve.
He’ll now transition to tight end for the Eagles.
In three seasons at Iowa State as an explosive wide receiver, Butler totaled 110 catches for 2,149 yards and 18 touchdowns. He set a single-season school record with 1,318 receiving yards in his final year.
