Marlins at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Trevor Rogers vs. RHP Deivi Garcia

Rogers owns a 6.84 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through six starts. The 22-year-old left-hander has struck out 12.6 batters per nine, but he has battled control (4.2 BB/9) problems and gopher-itis.

  • Has been hit hard in two of his last three starts (aggregate 10 IP, 14 ER).
  • In those starts and throughout his first six MLB starts, Rogers has been undone by a .385 BABIP, a 65% LOB rate, and a 22.7% HR/FB mark. Analytics ERA measurements peg his average in the high 3s.

Garcia owns a 4.88 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through 5 GS.

  • Was rocked in his last outing (Sept. 20 at Boston): 3 IP, 6 ER on nine base runners.

Money line (ML)

The Yankees (-200) are back to putting a healthy lineup on the field after enduring major health issues throughout August and early September. While New York did rattle off 10 straight wins in mid-September, the “fully operational Death Star” has had plenty of missteps as well. The Yanks went into that 10-game streak after four straight losses, and heading into Saturday’s matinee, New York has lost five of its last six. Three of those losses were by six runs or more.

The Yanks are a below-average group against lefty pitching (.715 OPS) and are prone to struggles against hurlers they haven’t seen before. The tag is MARLINS +175. Hold out for +185 and take the visitors at too good a price to ignore.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Miami is 31-16 ATS as an underdog this season. But pass on the MARLINS +1.5 (-121) unless you can wait out a tag closer to -110.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 9.5 (-110). Leverage what figures as a humid day game at Yankee Stadium, along with starters prone to the long ball and a bad Miami bullpen. Rest-day lineup maneuvers don’t figure to play into a game both teams need in their respective pursuits of optimal postseason positioning.
