Colts hold tryout for S J.J. Wilcox

J.J. Wilcox has experience with the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts had veteran safety J.J. Wilcox come in for a tryout on Wednesday, per the league’s transaction wire.

After hosting a tryout for five safeties on Tuesday, the Colts continue to monitor the free-agent market. With Malik Hooker currently sitting the rest of the season out on the injured reserve list, general manager Chris Ballard likely wants to keep an eye on what’s available.

Wilcox had a small stint with the Colts during the 2018 season. He spent the final three weeks with the team as they were dealing with some depth issues in the secondary. He even saw some playing time during the playoff run for the Colts at the time.

Wilcox is coming off of a torn ACL that he suffered over the summer in 2019 when he was rostered by the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the entire 2019 season and was released by the Falcons three weeks ago on Sept. 5.

This is likely just the Colts keeping tabs on a veteran who has experience in their system, but it was enough to bring him in for a tryout.
