Jarrett Allen’s days as the starting center in Brooklyn may be behind him — and there might not be anything he can to do change that.
The Nets big man lost his job the second Jacque Vaughn took over as interim head coach in March. With Steve Nash, who’s friends with Kevin Durant, now the franchise’s head coach, it stands to reason he’s going to roll with DeAndre Jordan — also Durant’s buddy — as the team’s starting center.
After what happened in March, Allen wanted to prove in the Disney bubble that he’s still capable of being a starting NBA center. If that label is going to become a point of contention in Brooklyn, then maybe Greg Schwartz of Bleacher Report‘s trade proposal would be an idea worth considering.
But right now, the idea of sending Allen to Boston for Robert Williams, Carsen Edwards and a lottery-protected 2021 first-round pick doesn’t seem like a great idea. Though, if the Nets think they can get more out of the young pair than the Celtics are, then this deal becomes much more appealing for Brooklyn.
Carsen Edwards could pack a punch off the bench as a long-range threat and did so early in 2019-20, until he started slumping. Since then, he hasn’t been able to find his shot.
Still, keeping Allen is the way to go here.
