When it comes to the NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors have several different options available to them when they are on the clock with the second overall pick on Nov. 18.
Of course, the Warriors have previously stated that they are open to trading the pick in order to acquire veterans that can help them win now. The team could also opt to hold onto the pick and select from a variety of different prospects.
The word in circles around the league is the Warriors are not necessarily very high on LaMelo Ball. As a result, the team has been most commonly projected to select James Wiseman since he is a better fit. However, the Warriors may have another player on their radar.
According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, citing league sources, the Warriors appear to be higher on international prospect Deni Avdija over the likes of Ball and Wiseman.
According to league sources, Golden State is believed to be higher on Avdija than on Ball and perhaps even Wiseman. But if the Warriors decide they want Avdija, they might be best-served trading back to the 5-to-8 range, where most experts expect him to go.
The 6-foot-8 forward is a bit of a swiss-army knife on offense who could be useful for nearly any team in the NBA. Avdija can do a lot of things on the court but doesn’t excel in any one area, which is why he is a bit further down the draft board.
The Warriors will continue to look at their options ahead of the NBA Draft but it may not be too surprising to see them eventually trade down and target Avdija or another player that better fits their system. The situation in the Bay will certainly be worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
