The New York Mets (21-24) and Toronto Blue Jays (24-20) play the second game of a three-game weekend set at Sahlen Field in Buffalo (Toronto’s 2020 home park) Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:37 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Mets-Blue Jays MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Mets at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Seth Lugo vs. LHP Robbie Ray

Lugo: 2-2, 12 games (3 starts), 2.05 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 12.7 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 22 IP

  • Lugo is making his fourth straight turn through the rotation and is coming off a season-high 5 innings with just one run allowed and 8 strikeouts against 2 walks.
  • Has allowed just two earned runs through three starts spanning a total of 11 2/3 innings. Allowed a home run in each of his last two outings.

Ray (with Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks): 1-4, 9 games (8 starts), 7.51 ERA, 1.98 WHIP, 12.2 K/9, 8.2 BB/9, 38 1/3 IP

  • Has improved on his walk rate (4.9 vs. 9.0) since being acquired by Toronto at the trade deadline but has given up three home runs in just two games with the Jays.
  • Hasn’t gone more than 5 innings yet this season.

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Mets 5

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUE JAYS (+160) are worth taking at a number inflated by Friday’s embarrassing 18-1 loss, which included 10 runs given up in the fourth inning once SP Chase Anderson had been pulled from the game. Mets SP Jacob deGrom had to go just 6 innings and left with a comfortable lead after allowing just one earned run.

The Mets’ (-182) big inning included a grand slam off the bat of 1B Dominic Smith. A total of 12 runs were scored against RPs Anthony Kay and Jacob Waguespack.

The Jays should answer back Saturday, as they’re likely to get an extended look at a Mets bullpen, which sports a 4.17 ERA. Bichette and his .361/.391/.672 slash line this season is hopeful to be back in the lineup.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Value remains on the BLUE JAYS +1.5 (+100) at even money while being spotted a run. It’s tough to find an edge in the starting pitching matchup with both teams in the lesser half of their handedness split.

Lugo’s scheduled to throw around 100 pitches, but that’s a number he hasn’t hit in two seasons.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 10 (-110) but as a light play only. New York nearly doubled the number on its own Friday, and much more should be expected from Toronto after putting up a single run in the series opener.
