Michigan has had a penchant of late to pull in multiple prospects from the same high school.
While that might be one thing if it’s Detroit (MI) Cass Tech or West Bloomfield (MI) — as both are local schools that happen to be coached by former Wolverines, themselves — it’s another when Michigan dips into Miami to get the Charles Flanagan trio of Devin Bush Jr., Josh Metellus and Devin Gil or — more recently — when it’s gotten three from Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy as it did in 2020 or as it has thus far in 2021 with two from IMG Academy and two from Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas.
Now, it’s something of a split, as the Wolverines got a pledge from Massachusetts’ Buckingham Browne & Nichols four-star offensive tackle in 2020 early-enrollee Zak Zinter and added his 2022 teammate Tyler Martin, a four-star linebacker who made frequent visits to campus last year.
Martin made the announcement live with Rivals’ EJ Holland.
Rated at No. 106 overall according to Rivals.com, Martin has offers from the likes of Arkansas, Nebraska, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Virginia. Rivals sees him as the No. 3 inside linebacker in 2022 and the best player in the state of Massachusetts.
With Martin in the fold, Michigan now has two commitments in the 2022 cycle, both four-stars, as Essexville (MI) Garber defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren pledged in Dec. 2019. In the 247Sports Team Rankings, the addition of Martin sees the Wolverines move up from No. 23 to No. 11 overall, ahead of Washington, Miami (FL), USC and Auburn.
