Darrell Henderson is ‘good to go’ for Week 1 vs. Cowboys

The Rams will have their full group of running backs available on Sunday.

We don’t yet know how the workload will be distributed at running back this season, but Sean McVay will have all three of his top guys available on Sunday night against the Cowboys. The Rams coach announced on Friday that Darrell Henderson – who had been nursing a hamstring injury for the last few weeks – is good to go for Week 1.

Henderson practiced in full on Wednesday and Thursday, which was a good sign for his availability, and Friday’s news is confirmation that he’ll be suiting up against Dallas. He’ll join Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown as the Rams’ options at running back, with Xavier Jones and Raymond Calais likely to be healthy scratches.

McVay and general manager Les Snead have been secretive when it comes to the Rams’ plan at running back, other than to say they want to use a committee to start and that the situation will work itself out as time goes on. Snead seemed to indicate that the bulk of the carries will go to Akers and Brown initially, with Henderson mixed in when healthy.

Sunday’s season opener will be a big first step toward determining who the top dog is in the backfield, and the Rams can only hope their rookie running back has the type of impact that Clyde Edwards-Helaire had in his debut on Thursday night for the Chiefs.

If Akers plays like that, there may not be many opportunities left for Brown and Henderson at the end of the day.
