Given Steve Nash and Kevin Durant have a relationship that predates their time in Golden State — meeting while both were players, courtesy of current Nets assistant coach Adam Harrington — one would think the Hall of Fame point guard reached out to Brooklyn’s superstar after he contacted Sean Marks about the Nets head coach position.
But that wasn’t the case.
“We’re friends, but I did not talk to him specifically about this,” Nash said during his introductory press conference on Wednesday. “For me, it was really [about] trying to hone in on what I can bring to the table here and put myself into a position to fulfill what this franchise is looking for.”
But, as he has with Kyrie Irving, Nash has spoken to Durant since he got the job.
And Brooklyn’s new head coach can’t wait to work with Durant again.
“It’s a privilege to work with one of the greatest players to ever play the game,” he said of Durant. “Someone that’s incredibly coachable, inquisitive … Kevin’s always searching. He’s always curious, inquisitive, developing as a human. He’s a deep person who has a lot of goals and a lot of about him, not just in basketball.”
