See it: Titans’ Jadeveon Clowney signs his contract

Titans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has officially put pen to paper.

Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has put pen to paper and signed his contract, the team revealed through a social media post on Monday night.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed Clowney’s one-year contract is valued at around $12 million in base salary, but can go as high as $15 million with incentives.

The road to landing Clowney certainly wasn’t easy, but it was a journey the Titans simply had to embark on after the pass-rush was the biggest cause of their demise in the AFC Championship Game last season.

Not only did the Titans have to wait things out, but both the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints were hot on the trail, especially in the days leading up to him finally making a decision.

It has been reported that both teams were looking to work out a sign-and-trade in order to land Clowney after it was clear they couldn’t match the Titans’ offer thanks to limited cap space.

However, once the league shot down the Saints’ initial attempt, the Ravens’ hopes of doing something similar were also thwarted. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that had the Ravens been allowed to do the sign-and-trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Clowney would have ended up in Baltimore, not New Orleans or Tennessee.

With Clowney now in Nashville, the Titans will look to get him acclimated in time to play in the Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos. On Monday, head coach Mike Vrabel said that the team hopes to get him in the building by Tuesday and his chances of playing next Monday are “pretty good.”
