SAN FRANCISCO — One day after being cut from the San Francisco 49ers active roster, former University of Tennessee football player Jauan Jennings was assigned to the team’s practice squad.
Jennings, a wide receiver and seventh-round draft pick in 2020, was placed on waivers Saturday.
He was named as part of the 16-man practice squad on Sunday for San Francisco, which opens its season this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals in an NFC West showdown in Santa Clara.
Jennings had eight touchdown receptions for the Volunteers last season as Tennessee went 8-5 and closed the campaign with a 23-22 comeback victory over Indiana in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on Jan. 2.
