The 2020-21 Brooklyn Nets are going to look much different from the 2019-20 team with Kevin Durant returning to the floor, Kyrie Irving being his No. 2 and Steve Nash being the rookie who’ll run the show.
But that doesn’t mean — for all the weird things the franchise experienced — 2019-20 was a throwaway year for Brooklyn.
Nets Wire is looking at the good and bad from 2019-20 nd handing out some end of the season grades, starting with Brooklyn’s Disney bubble star:
Caris LeVert
STATS: 18.7 PPG | 36.4 3-PT% | 4.4 APG
When you’ve got Damian Lillard publicly stating you’re going to break out next season, you must be doing something right.
Dinwiddie has been saying for a while LeVert is Brooklyn’s third star, and the wing truly proved that in the Disney bubble by making NBA All-Seeding Games Second Team. The only area in which he struggled was 3-point shooting (25.8%).
Between the pre and post-hiatus games, LeVert logged a career-best 3-point percentage (36.4). Pre-hiatus, the wing shot 38.1% from deep — so the break and unique environment in the bubble might’ve had an impact.
LeVert’s major step forward with his long-range shooting will play big in 2020-21 when he shares the floor with Irving. But he can clearly run the offense when needed, too.
Health is always a major concern with LeVert. When he can stay on the floor, he not only makes an impact, but also seems to improve day-by-day.
