Another impactful player has decided to opt-out of playing in the 2020 season for Oklahoma.

The Sooners have already had starting running back Kennedy Brooks opt-out. Budding star defensive tackle Jalen Redmond has, too, according to a report from OUInsider and later confirmed by SoonerScoop.com.

SoonersWire can confirm that Redmond has not practiced much, if it all, throughout this fall camp due to a lingering shoulder injury.

The former four-star recruit from Midwest City suffered from blood clots as a freshman and missed much of the 2018 season. Redmond stormed onto the scene in 2019, leading the team in sacks (6.5) and top three in tackles for loss (11).

Oklahoma is going to feel the loss of Redmond, but the Sooners do have some depth at the position. LaRon Stokes Jr. played the same amount or more snaps than Redmond did in 2019 and redshirt freshman Kori Roberson is healthy ahead of the 2020 season. Both players received high remarks from defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux in his recent zoom conference call.

The Sooners begin the 2020 season on Sept. 12 against Missouri State at home. Kickoff time is set for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be viewed on pay-per-view.
