Cam Newton is the New England Patriots’ QB1.
The team named him the starting quarterback and a captain on Thursday, just ahead of cuts down to 53 men. Newton, who signed a one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason, beat out Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. It seems Newton quickly won over New England after knocking off the rust from his 2019 season when he spent most of the year on injured reserve. Newton’s response to learning he was the team’s top quarterback was exactly the type of thing Bill Belichick likes to see.

It seems he’s just the man for the job.
