The Arizona Cardinals, as of Saturday morning, had to cut another 16 players from their roster to get to the required 53 by 1 p.m. Arizona time. According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, they have 15 to go now.

They are reportedly cutting cornerback Chris Jones.

Jones was an undrafted rookie out of Nebraska who spent time with the Cardinals for two seasons. Last year, he appeared in 11 games, starting three and had 22 tackles and six pass breakups.

Pelissero believes he could be claimed off waivers. If not, he would be a candidate for the Cardinals to bring back to the practice squad.

With Jones getting cut, it would appear to clear the way for Ken Crawley and Kevin Peterson to make the roster, with undrafted rookie Jace Whittaker getting a shot as well, depending on how many they keep on the roster at that position.
