The San Diego Padres (24-16) and Oakland Athletics (22-13) play the middle contest of a three-game interleague set at Ring Central Coliseum Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET (on FS1). Below, we analyze the Padres-Athletics MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.
Padres at Athletics: Projected starting pitchers
RHP Chris Paddack vs. LHP Sean Manaea
Paddack is 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while turning in 42 strikeouts across 42 2/3 innings over eight starts.
- Paddack tries to keep things going in the right direction after allowing just two unearned runs, five hits and one walk over six innings with a season-high eight strikeouts at the Colorado Rockies in a win last Sunday.
- Paddack has never faced the A’s in his brief career. He is 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in two starts against other AL West teams this season.
Manaea has posted a 2-2 record, 5.64 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 25 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings over his seven outings.
- Manaea allowed three runs – one earned – and six hits with no walks and three strikeouts over five innings in a win last time out at the Texas Rangers Aug. 25.
- Manaea has allowed 38 hits in his 30 1/3 innings, but he has walked just five batters on the season and none in his past two outings.

Prediction
Padres 5, Athletics 3
Moneyline (ML)
The PADRES (-106) were rather rude house guests in Friday’s interleague series opener, hanging a touchdown on the Athletics (-106) in a 7-0 shutout. The A’s were playing their first game since Aug. 29 due to a COVID-19 scare, and they haven’t won since Aug. 26 in Texas. Paddack and the Padres will add to their misery in this one.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
The PADRES (-1.5, +145) are worth a small-unit play in this one, as Manaea has been very hittable this season. San Diego jumped all over LHP Jesus Luzardo in Friday’s series opener, and each of their past eight wins dating back to Aug. 21 have been by two or more runs.
Over/Under (O/U)
The O/U 8.5 (-110) should be avoided, as I expect the total to be right around the number. If there was a lean here it would be to the Under, which has cashed in five of the past seven for San Diego and eight of the past 11 for Oakland. AVOID.
