LeBron James says family restriction for coaches is ‘ridiculous’

Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone called attention to the fact that coaches aren’t allowed any family allowances in the bubble.

Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone was vocal with his frustrations with the NBA on Friday afternoon, discussing how he believes the league should feel shame for not allowing the league’s coaches any allowances on bringing family members to join them in the bubble. Both players and referees have been allowed to bring guests to the Disney World bubble, but coaches are exempt from that. Malone brought that to the attention of many on Friday and one of those many was LeBron James.

James saw the news after his teammate Jared Dudley retweeted a story regarding Malone’s comments about the lack of familial access for coaches, saying that his former assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers is “absolutely right.”

It’s been a topic that has been a factor in the NBA for years, though not something coaches typically talk about behind the microphone. While the coaches have their own association, they do not collectively bargain with the league the same way the players and the referees do, which may be a reason why they have not been given the same allowances.
