The Los Angeles Lakers return to the floor on Friday night after nearly a week away, able to repair their bodies and their minds in preparation for a series that will stretch them physically and mentally in a way that they may not see for the rest of the playoffs, provided they advance as everyone expects they will.

The Lakers have Game 1 against the Houston Rockets on Friday night, which will challenge them to play outside of the identity they’ve leaned on for most of the season. JaVale McGee may not see the floor in this series, as the Rockets famously play without any traditional big men. While the Thunder pushed the Rockets to the brink, the Lakers don’t have an individual defender on the same level of OKC’s Lugentz Dort, who created problems for Harden all series.
