LSU’s Ed Orgeron named to Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Watch List

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron became one of 13 coaches named to the 2020 watch list for the Bobby Dodd Trophy.

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron became one of 13 coaches named to the 2020 watch list for the Bobby Dodd Trophy for national coach of the year this week, as the award’s foundation announced Thursday.

The watch list features four former winners, including Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly (2018), Alabama’s Nick Saban (2014), Clemson’s Dabo Swinney (2011), and North Carolina’s Mack Brown (2008).

Both Orgeron and Swinney were finalists last year, but it was Utah coach Kyle Whittingham who ultimately took home the honors.

Orgeron took home a host of awards during the 2019 national championship season, including the Eddie Robinson Award, the Bear Bryant Award, Associated Press Coach of the Year, the George Munger Award, the Walter Camp Award, the Home Depot Award the award from the American Football Coaches Association.

The midseason watch list will be released later this year, and the winner for 2020 will be announced in Atlanta on the week of the Peach Bowl.

Orgeron and his Tigers are set to begin the journey to defending their title on Spet. 26, when they open the season by hosting the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Tiger Stadium.
