Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) made his long-awaited return to practice on Wednesday, providing some good news for a position group that has been decimated by injuries.
Mims participated in individual drills, which gave Adam Gase his first opportunity to watch the rookie run routes in-person. The pandemic, in addition to Mims’ injury, played a part in the delay.
Mims’ lack of reps and a normal offseason have no doubt made his adjustment to the NFL tougher, but the Baylor product still expects to be on the field Week 1. He said “most definitely” when asked if he’ll be ready to go.
Elsewhere on the injury front, CB Pierre Desir (hamstring) returned but was limited. TE Chris Herndon (chest) also returned after a leaving Tuesday’s practice.
LG Alex Lewis (shoulder) didn’t practice, though he suffered no structural damage after a collision with a defender. Rookie OL Cam Clark (knee) left practice, while WR Braxton Berrios (back) sat out.
WR Breshad Perriman (knee) remained out but had an MRI. He has now missed more than a week of practice, but Gase said the Jets are being protective.
“I was way off on that. I really thought he was going to be back [sooner],” Gase said. “We just got to keep the swelling down… We’re probably being a little cautious anyway.”
