It was a bit weird watching a cornerback run around Raiders camp wearing No. 41. But that’s what rookie fourth-round pick Amik Robertson was wearing.
Normally defensive backs have numbers in the 20s and 30s. But on a roster of 90 players (80 once camp started), there are only so many numbers in that range to go around and running backs have the same number range.
When the Raiders drafted Robertson, he probably wanted the No. 21 which he wore at Lousiana Tech. But at that time it was worn by Nick Nelson. Then the team signed free agent Prince Amukamara and he took the number.
Last week, the Raiders waived Nelson with a failed physical and released Amukamara, leaving the No. 21 for the taking. And Robertson swiped it up. When the team took the field for practice Wednesday, he was donning his new/old number. The Raiders tweeted out an image of Robertson in it.
