Detroit Tigers at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Detroit Tigers at Milwaukee Brewers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Detroit Tigers (16-16) and  Milwaukee Brewers (16-18) meet Tuesday night for a 7:40 p.m. ET first pitch in the front half of a two-game set at Miller Park. Below, we analyze the Tigers-Brewers MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Tigers at Brewers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Michael Fulmer vs. RHP Josh Lindblom

Fulmer has looked lost in 2020, posting an 8.79 ERA over five starts. Returning from a 2018 Tommy John surgery, the right-hander has faced a little under 14 batters per game.

  • Fulmer’s results are colored as even more disappointing when you figure in a combined three starts against the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals, two clubs not exactly tearing the cover off the ball in 2020.
  • The righty’s fastball — a 63% pitch as a frequent choice in his arsenal — has come up a couple of miles short after TJS. It’s 2.2 mph hour slower than the figure posted when Fulmer filed a 3.83 ERA over 25 starts in 2017.

Lindblom owns a 6.31 ERA over 6 starts.

  • Lindblom has yielded hard contact and a lot of fly balls, but he’s also been undone by factors that aren’t skill-repeatable. Namely, the right-hander has coughed up a 20% HR rate on fly balls and a .356 batting average on balls in play.
  • The reliever-turned-starter misses a lot of bats (15.6% swinging strikes). He heads into Tuesday’s game with 36 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched.

Moneyline (ML)

Detroit (+170) has won five straight games, but an analytics angle on this one leans heavily toward host Milwaukee. Indicators like cluster luck, base runs and high-leverage/high-BABIP peg the Tigers as having a minus-21 run differential way out of whack with where that number — and, by extension, where their won-loss record — should be.

Lindblom plays as a thus-far unfortunate intermediate-range starter. Pitching-wise, a game decided by the bullpens is a big advantage for the Brewers.

MILWAUKEE (-189) is a play with a lot of value.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

On a high total, BREWERS -1.5 (-106) doesn’t have quite as much value built in as the moneyline play, but that price will do for bettors looking to make a more risk-averse play to begin with.

Over/Under (O/U)

The number here — OVER 9.5 (-110)/UNDER 9.5 (-110) — is well-pegged and not worth shoehorning into a wager. PASS.
