Chiefs exceptionally healthy heading into regular-season preparation

Only two players won’t practice on Monday for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs have shifted back into regular-season mode on Monday.

Training camp is over for the Chiefs but the team is still set to practice after an off-day on Sunday. They’re changing gears, working on getting accustomed to their normal in-season routine. Some good news that accompanied the return to work is that the team is exceptionally healthy. Ahead of media availability, Chiefs PR delivered the news that nearly everyone player would practice in some capacity today.

Here’s the list of players who aren’t at practice:

  • Daniel Kilgore (Excused)
  • Martinas Rankin (PUP)

If you’ll recall, the final injury report from training camp had six players out of practice including Kilgore and Rankin. It’s not entirely clear why Kilgore is out of practice, but it’s not injury-related. As the most recent free-agent addition he is missing out on valuable repetitions. Hopefully, everything is alright and he can return to the team soon.

Returning to practice are DEs Alex Okafor and Demone Harris. Tight end Deon Yelder is back after being out for an extended time with a groin injury. Rookie offensive tackle Yasir Durant also returns to practice after dealing with a head injury. We don’t know how much work all of these players will get in this afternoon, but it’s good news that they’re able to get out there with their teammates.

Having nearly a full 80-man roster of players healthy enough to practice is going to provide a crystal clear look at the roster ahead of 53-man roster cuts. Those are coming on Saturday, Sept. 5 by 3:00 p.m. CT.
