Joe Burrow had another strong showing at a Cincinnati Bengals training camp scrimmage, this time on Sunday evening in an exhibition meant to take the place of the traditional third preseason game.
It didn’t look good at first though, not with Burrow posting an 0-for-3 line to start the scrimmage.
Not that Burrow has been a stranger to bouncing back during camp. He quickly responded by completing nine of his next 10 passes with a touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd. Burrow also peppered tight end C.J. Uzomah with plenty of looks.
Burrow hit plenty of other targets on later drives, including the upstart Mike Thomas. He also had at least one fluky interception, though coaches ended up calling a flag and it was overturned (no officials were present so things were a little fluid).
In all? A solid showing for Burrow in an understandably sloppy environment where the team had to pump in fake crowd noise and simulate a game experience without officials and the like. His numbers weren’t amazing, but drops didn’t help.
No shocker either, not after Burrow torched the defense in his first pro scrimmage earlier this month. The Bengals figure to have at least one more scrimmage or a mock game, but the big focus now is on simply staying healthy before the season kicks off on September 13.
Zac Taylor on Joe Burrow: "He's just been impressive. He's what we expected when we took him No. 1 overall."
