Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on death of acquaintance Chadwick Boseman

Mahomes and Boseman crossed paths a few times over the years.

The shocking news broke on Friday evening that actor Chadwick Boseman, star of films such as “Black Panther” and “42”, tragically died after a multi-year battle with colon cancer.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had crossed paths with Boseman numerous times over the past few years. The two first met and had a chance to talk after they filmed an episode of HBO’s “The Shop: Uninterrupted” along with Trae Young, Roddy Ricch, Tiffany Haddish, and Steve Stoute. They also were seated near each other at the NBA All-Star Game, as Mahomes and Boseman both shared a passion for live sports. The two were merely acquaintances, but Mahomes, of course, was a big fan of Boseman’s work on the movie set and off of it.

The first question that Mahomes fielded after the final Chiefs practice on Saturday was about Boseman.

“I’m obviously a huge fan of all of his work and then at the same time, I got to be on ‘The Shop’ with him right after this season and I got to meet him, after that we had a conversation there,” Mahomes told reporters. “Then we went to the NBA All-Star Game and we sat right beside each other, his wife, my girlfriend, they talked. Just great people and obviously, rest in peace to him. He was a great person, so total respect and total fan of him and his work.”

During training camp on Saturday, Mahomes paid homage to Boseman, doing the Wakanda Forever salute from “Black Panther” toward the crowd at Arrowhead Stadium.
