Dodgers at Rangers: Projected starting pitchers
RHP Ross Stripling vs. RHP Lance Lynn
Stripling has a shiny 3-1 record, but a poor 5.46 ERA and a mediocre 1.42 WHIP with 24 strikeouts across 29 2/3 innings over his six starts.
- Stripling has faced one AL West opponent this season and it wasn’t pretty. He allowed seven runs – six earned – and eight hits in just three innings in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 17.
- Stripling shined with a quality start in his first outing of the season July 24, but he hasn’t allowed less than three earned runs while going six or more innings in any of his five outings since.
It’s been Lance Lynn, then pray for rain, as far as the Rangers are concerned. He is 4-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 50 strikeouts across 45 1/3 innings over his seven starts.
- Lynn’s name has been bandied about in trade rumors, so be very careful wagering on this game. There is the potential he could be a late scratch if the Rangers decide to protect their asset leading up to the Aug. 31 trade deadline.
- Lynn has recorded three consecutive quality starts, including two vs. the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies, two NL West clubs.

Prediction
Rangers 7, Dodgers 5
Moneyline (ML)
The RANGERS (+135) are the play, as long as Lynn is still the scheduled starter. The Dodgers (-150) are moderate favorites, but Stripling has been a train wreck lately. Texas won 6-2 in the series opener, and they could easily take this one behind their best hurler.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
The RANGERS (+1.5, -125) aren’t overpriced if you want a little insurance, and you don’t trust the 11-win team to beat MLB’s best two days in a row. Still, the best play is to simply take the moneyline.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 8.5 (-110) is a risky play the way Lynn has been rolling along, but Stripling has been extremely hittable. The Over is 7-3 in L.A.’s last 10 road games, and 7-2 in the previous nine against right-handed starting pitchers. The Over is 5-1 in the past six for Texas against NL West foes, and 7-3 in the past 10 as a ‘dog.
