Some NFL players test the patience of teams on a regular basis. Supremely talented athletes who do everything in their power to test the patience of their team if that talent is worth all the baggage they bring with them. Can you tell we are about to talk about running back Le’Veon Bell?
The current New York Jet is having another miserable, drama-filled training camp where he’s doing all he can to prove he is not worth his exorbitant salary. This might not be directly relevant to the Steelers but given the number of fans who went out their way to defend Bell when the Steelers didn’t re-sign him, these sorts of reminders are always necessary.
There was a time when Bell looked poised to be the best running back in the NFL. His ability to impact the offense as a runner and receiver were unique among current NFL backs. Pittsburgh was the perfect fit for his skills and his faults. The team stood by Bell despite multiple injuries and suspensions and even in the final days of his time with the Steelers offered him a huge contract to stay with the team.
But now he and his $13 million salary are the Jets problem. New York head coach Adam Gase seems to be running out of patience with Bell which comes as no surprise to Steeler Nation.
