Some teams use the run to set up the passing game and other teams use the passing game to set up the run. The Pittsburgh Steelers used to be the former but in recent seasons it has switched to the later.
The way this is accomplished is by the Steelers is letting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throw it deep. So as Roethlisberger continued his rehab back from elbow surgery, a question around him was if he would still have that trademark deep ball.
According to offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner, the answer is yes. According to Fichtner, Roethlisberger has had no problem making deep throws in practice and just as important seems confident in making those plays.
Roethlisberger has plenty of weapons on offense to stretch the defense. Players like James Washington, Chase Claypool and Eric Ebron should be able to push safeties out of the box and give the Steelers running back some space to operate.
