RB Kenyan Drake in walking boot, dealing with ‘soreness,’ per Kliff Kingsbury

Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t say whether Drake could miss the season opener.

The Arizona Cardinals are starting to deal with some injuries in training camp. Starting cornerback Robert Alford was lost for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins has missed some practice time with hamstring soreness.

During the open portion of Monday’s practice in training camp, reporters noticed running back Kenyan Drake was in a walking boot.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury was asked about it after practice.

Kingsbury said it was “soreness, more than anything,” and that it was precautionary. He did not say whether Drake’s availability for the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on September 13 would be affected.

A walking boot suggests either an injury to the ankle, like a sprain of some sort, or a foot injury. With just less than three weeks before the season begins, Cardinals fans should only have mild concern about whether Drake will miss any time.

It is the time to be overly cautious. During the season, players will work through pain and soreness. In training camp, established players don’t need to do that.
